Phantasmagoria (1987) for orchestra or chamber orchestra was written both as a stand alone work that could either be performed with a full complement of strings or in a chamber setting or as the inner movement (along with Shadows) of a large scale four movement symphonic work. Each of the movements of this projected work utilize the same pitch material but for different purposes. In Phantasmagoria, the use of steel drums in an almost concerto-like setting is an unusual feature of this work.
